BA and Nid FAQ is up

#1  Postby Melissia » Wed Jun 30, 2010 5:59 pm

Though I doubt I have to tell the AB40k maintainers, for everyone else that might not know about it, the FAQs for these two armies are up.

Blood Angels

Tyranids

Though in truth the Blood Angels FAQ basically just answers all the questions that didn't need answering unless you play with a bunch of idiotic rules lawyers, the 'Nids FAQ DOES answer some important questions.

The one that is baffling to me is the Tyranid Prime and Micetic Spores. I thought the whole purpose of a transport was to allow an IC and a squad to go together?

The transport simply allows a unit to be in it. Whether an IC can join them or not is normally down to capacity - maybe this is taken to mean that the capacity of a Mycetic Spore is only ever as large as the unit it is taken with, and so there is never any room for an IC to join them ...

I think it is more "fluffy" than that. The Mycetic spore is cooking the single brood on the way out/down. It's not like there is an Embarkation room in the Hive Ship where a Prime can join the Warriors and they climb into some goo filled other creature.

Yeah, that's more like it - it's a womb dropping from low orbit, going to be a bit awkward being a Prime latched onto the outside squealing "LET ME IN!" :P

Its because ICs can join units in dedicated transports. A mycinetic spore is not a dedicated transport, it is a special deployment option that mimics some aspects of a DT, but it is not actually a vehicle.

While it's not a vehicle, the claim that's not a "dedicated transport" is unfounded. Look at the units that can take it - the reference to the spore is under the heading "Dedicated Transport:" for each of them ... ;)

I don't even play Nids and I think the ruling is odd 8O

I would agree with the womb comments.

Re: Not making sense as the Spore is listed under dedicated Transport. Simple...

Games workshop would have to write a bunch of new rules to call this a "Falling Womb" and elminiate Independant Characters. Something no one writing a FAQ should be doing. It would have made a whole lot more sense to state "While Mytec Spores are listed as Dedicated Transports in the Codex they do not in any way allow additional models beyond the core unit that purchased them. No Independant Characters may be carried."

In an ambiguious langugage like the English language (esp with all the permutations their within) being a word miser causes these discreprencies.

IE it is better to have a FAQ that is 1 page longer so we understand Games Workshop! :)
